Cloning Hair Follicles

hair-cloning.jpgThe development of a technique to successfully clone the human follicle is the ultimate solution to hair loss, according to most hair experts. The extraction of one follicle would be enough to produce a whole head-full of hair eliminating the need to transplant individual hair follicles from thicker parts of the scalp. The technology is there but scientists are still at a loss in the true cloning of the said hair units for they are quite small yet remarkably complex cells that defy all attempts. Studies are closely monitoring the Human Genome project which may also find the “Missing Link” to isolate the specific hormone or compound the body uses to stimulate hair growth. Current products work on stimulating weak hair follicles with hormones and other known hair benefiting compounds. The isolation of the specific enzyme, hormone or compound which can be applied to the scalp or taken internally to stimulate growth would be the best news for people undergoing hair loss. So do watch out for the latest hair care products and studies which are pursuing many avenues of study which could once and for all prevent the process in the first place.
