Many people believe they can tell how bald they will become by looking at their close relatives. In reality, there is no way to obtain an accurate picture of future balding by examining a family tree. Far too many genetic variables come into play to accurately predict whether someone will develop male pattern baldness, and if he does how extensive it will be. Considering a transplant must determine whether his expectations are realistic or not. If someone has a few small areas to repair, it is possible to fill the entire area, but if someone’s balding is advanced, it will probably not have enough hair to donate to fill in all of the areas. It must be remembered that we are rearranging hair, not creating new hair. On occasion, the high levels of expectation regarding the amount of hair they will need to be happy, that they should probably purchase a hairpiece instead of a transplant.
